Founder's Story
Shannen- Kaylia Henry
Shannen's journey is a unique blend of environmental science, sustainable fashion, and heritage. A native New Yorker who has lived on 4 continents, Shannen has always been drawn to the intersections of cultural heritage and sustainability. Her path has taken her through some of the world’s most influential environments, each shaping her approach to sustainable fashion.

She began her academic journey as a biologist in Napa Valley, where she studied the degradation of the redwood forest, instilling a profound appreciation for nature's resilience.

For grad school, she moved to Paris, where she immersed herself in the heart of luxury fashion, studying the intricate balance between high-end design and environmental responsibility.

To conclude her graduate studies, she ventured to the textile districts of Southern India, where she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of the pollutant fashion industry on both people and the environment. India was the transformative moment where she decided to commit her professional life to sustainable development.
Now residing in Biella, Italy—one of the world’s most prestigious textile manufacturing regions—Shannen combines her scientific background in environmental science with her expertise in luxury fashion and deep appreciation for cultural heritage. She leverages this blend to lead the Kaylia Group, an ecosystem dedicated to decarbonizing and decentralizing the design industry’s value chains.

Shannen’s connection to her Grenadian ancestry inspired her to establish the Council on Sustainable Fashion and Design of Grenada (CSFDG), the social impact arm of the Kaylia Group. Through this nonprofit, she empowers local women by enhancing the quality of their products using her expertise and network of artisans in Italy. This work bridges the gap between traditional craftsmanship and modern sustainability, ensuring that both people and the planet benefit from her efforts.
